Synopsis:

Reggie Levine, ex-boxer turned bouncer, and hapless hero, has barely recovered from his ordeal in Damn Dirty Apes, when he is called back to action. Recruited to retrieve a Chinese crested terrier from a fleapit roadside zoo, where the ugly effing showdog has been mistaken for the chupacabra, Reggie soon finds himself embroiled in a deadly criminal conspiracy involving neo-Nazi drug smugglers, a seedy used-car salesman, a wannabe serial killer, an ornery Vietnam veteran, a badass veterinarian, a freakishly endowed adult entertainment donkey named Enrique, and in an explosive cameo, an Academy Award winning Hollywood icon.

My Rating: 5/5

My Review:

Huge thanks to the author for an ARC of this book which I have chosen to review and provide my honest/objective opinion on.

Oh-my-friggin-god! Adam Howe – I am not sure how you actually do it…but you do…each and every time…and it rocks!

Set in the American south, we are thrown into this mash up of revenge, justice, drugs, violence, basically whatever this twisted author can think of and spew at the reader.  It is FANTASTIC!

I love the disclaimer at the start of the book – I definitely recommend reading that before delving into this story.  The plot is perfectly paced and pulls the reader in right from the start.  However – if you are easily shocked or offended – this, or any of Adam Howe’s books will not be your cup ‘o tea….you need to know this…but I challenge you to move out of your comfort zone as there is something special about Adam Howe and like me, you just may find yourself eagerly awaiting his next book publication!

I adored the fact that Reggie Levine is back!  Reggie is a ex-fighter/boxer turned bouncer who ended up working in a sleazy strip bar.  What cracks me up about this guy is he is smart, quick-witted and could really go places…if he could just bother his arse to do so!  One thing he is great at, is attracting trouble and not just your ordinary, run-of-the-mill trouble. Oh no….that would be TOO easy for Levine.  His kinda trouble starts with someone from his past coming back to kick some ass….and throw in a well endowed donkey, a love interest (which thankfully was NOT the donkey – you just never know with Adam Howe), a sleazy salesman, some messed up animals, a few other unfortunates and BOOM…that is Reggie’s life! ? If poor Reggie didn’t have bad luck, he would have no luck at all.

The character development in this novel is brilliant.  I pictured each and every one of these characters in my head as the story unfolded.  I liked the fact that we had different character perspectives which tied up seamlessly as the plot picked up pace.  And the humour – dark, dry, off the wall – OMFG…it had me in stitches!  I seriously could not contain myself at times and had many a strange look on my commute to and from work! My fave being – Marlene and Enrique…the donkey….I will just leave that there….mainly because I am still laughing and it is hard to type through tears! ?

Adam Howe can take the grotesque, macabre and absolutely twisted and turn it into a great story or two which leaves the reader wanting more.  Do I recommend this book?  Hell Yeah, I do!  I also suggest you have a look at his other books and you can find my reviews for these below:

  2. Adam Howe is unique, twisted and hilarious! He was chosen by Stephen King as the winner of the international On Writing contest, and published in the paperback/Kindle editions of King’s memoir. He is not just good….he is GREAT!
