Dark and devious… #RapidReviews #AnnCleeves #AlanParks #DavidVidecette

I’m doing my best to catch up on my backlog of reviews and here are three dark and devious reads which I really enjoyed!

Set in Shetland. This novel has a compelling storyline with twists galore! It’s multi layered so will definitely keep you on your toes. A tight community/village feel is evident where accusations and secrets hang in the air. I loved the opening – great characterization and multiple points of view gave me a different perspective of the same situation. The combination of the location, atmosphere and characters was great at building suspense. Highly recommended!

This gangland/police procedural is set in historic Glasgow and riddled with questionable characters, corruption and power. No surprise that I absolutely loved it. The opening intrigued me no end and the graphic descriptions had me racing through the pages. McCoy is a brilliant if not unconventional character, and he kept me 100% invested in the story. Gritty, violent and addictive reading – A must read!

Set in London, this is a true crime novel written by an ex police detective and based on the case of Suzy Lamplugh, whose case remains unsolved. The novel alludes to the author solving the case, but it’s more of a theory which has yet to be proven. Lots of references to other cases and I was surprised with the slightly personal tone in relation to the author himself. I have to admit, I was distracted at times from this story due to bits that I thought were a little overly descriptive and didn’t really fit the story but this book filled my true crime fix, and I definitely recommend. Now I’m just waiting for the police to act on the author’s theory to see if he’s correct! Recommended for fans of true crime!
