Synopsis:

It all seems straightforward. There’s been a tragic accident: the old man fell asleep in his chair, woke up in the dark, fell and hit his head on the mantelpiece. But the Crime Scene Manager isn’t happy. There are just too many details that aren’t quite right and Charles Michaelson’s accident becomes a suspicious death. And, as DCI Warren Jones investigates, he and his team discover that all is not as it appears to be in the dead man’s caring family when his son-in-law disappears. Then they uncover some dark secrets in Michaelson’s past and a motive for murder.

Claire’s Review:

Blood is Thicker Than Water is a novella starring DCI Warren Jones. What looks like an innocent accident takes a turn into something a little more sinister as the crime scene investigator spots something amiss. Surely blood is thicker than water?

This is the first offering from Paul Gitsham I’ve read and I really enjoyed it. As I haven’t read any of the full length novels, I didn’t feel I was missing out on anything and from what I understand this story sits between the second and third outings for Jones.

There is plenty packed into the 96 pages of this ebook. Not only is there the fast paced investigation into Charles Michaelson’s unexpected death but there is also a sneak peak of Silent as the Grave, the third book in the series. The story itself took me less than an hour to read.

When I finished Blood Is Thicker Than Water I promptly downloaded the first DCI Warren Jones book, The Last Straw. This policeman is someone I want to get to know better! He’s got tenacity and grit and gut instinct!

I definitely recommend this novella to anyone who likes their police procedural novels as a taster of the author’s work.

A big thank you to Carina UK and Netgalley for giving me this ebook in return for an honest review.
