I’m alone in the dark, please can you find me …

Nine-year-old twins Abigail and Olivia vow never to be parted. But when Abigail goes missing from Blackwater Farm, DC Jennifer Knight must find her before it’s too late.

Twin sister Olivia has been mute since Abigail’s disappearance. But when she whispers in Jennifer’s ear, Jennifer realises it is Abigail’s voice pleading to be found.

A damp and decaying house set in acres of desolate scrubland, the farm is a place of secrets, old and new – and Jennifer must unravel them all in order to find the lost girl. But could Olivia’s bond with her twin hold the key to finding Abigail? And can Jennifer break through her silence in time to save her sister’s life?

Noelle & Claire’s Rating: 5/5 of course!

Noelle’s Review:

First and foremost, a HUGE thanks to the author, Bookouture and Netgalley for an ARC of this bloody awesome book!

I have been a massive fan of this author since picking up her first book, Don’t Turn Around.  In fact, this was the first review I did when I started my blog nearly one year ago.  That book was pretty damn awesome.  Mrs Mitchell then surprised me with Time To Die ~ incredibly spooky, I have never looked at a raven in the same way.  But #bookjunkies, no one was more surprised than me to find that this book ~ The Silent Twin, has to be the best DC Jennifer Knight book by far!  I mean, it should have come with a warning label as holy sh*t….the fear factor was immense!

In fact, no one has inspired fear in me more than the master of horror & suspense ~Mr Stephen King; but I can honestly say that the author clearly must have taken a leaf from his book as it had a very Stephen King-ish feel to it. In true “The Shining” style, the author has hacked her way into crime fiction with a bang –shouting ” Heeeeeere’s Caroline!”. And #bookjunkies…be prepared for great things from this author, as she simply ROCKS!

The Silent Twin is set in the fictional town of Haven. Eery in itself, with all the paranormal activity– it is the perfect place for DC Jennifer Knight and the Operation Moonlight team to battle crime alongside those things that go bump in the night.

The author had me hooked within the first few pages- so much so, my mind was buzzing, with questions racing around in my head as to where the story was going.

Some of the themes that littered the storyline included secrets, revelations, past trauma/abuse and of course paranormal activity. Caroline Mitchell is fast becoming a true master at leading the reader down a creepy path in the hopes of finding some answers…only to reach a dead end and have to start again!!

I devoured this book in a little over 8 hours. This author feeds my crime addiction the way a drug dealer hands out meth….quick and sharp, dangerous and bad but OH it makes you feel so BLOODY GOOD!! {disclaimer: I do not promote the use of meth!} ??

I am a big fan of this author’s characters as well. They are likeable, have the reality factor, easy to visualise yet complex at the same time. I even find myself mesmerised and drawn to the bad guys…but I am strange that way! I was doing a little happy dance when I realised I had the right idea when it came to the antagonist in this book–I just had not figured out the details completely.

The twists were unexpected and gave me a real thrill — Like those creepy fair ground rides– you go in thinking you can handle it but then one of those blood-curdling freakin clowns jumps out and catch you unawares. Stupid clowns!

Does this book rock? Hell-friggin-yeah it does!!  In fact, I said it at the start! This has to be the BEST DC Knight book in the series so far!!

Claire’s Review:

How can a twin vanish into thin air when playing hide and seek with her sister at the farm she calls home with both her parents and their housekeeper the only others on site? That’s what DC Jennifer Knight, detective with an advantage has to find out. She is sent in as the Family Liason Officer when the outgoing FLO says there are strange things going on. It doesn’t take Jennifer long to work out this is a family with secrets and she needs to work out which ones will unlock the location of the missing 9 year old #FindAbigail

When I first started reading Caroline Mitchell’s debut “Don’t Turn Around” I was sceptical that I would enjoy the DC Knight series and would probably only read the one book. But by the end of it, I was a convert. Then came “Time To Die” and that freaked me out with The Raven #cawcaw. So when I got “The Silent Twin” I had an inkling I’d be in for a treat.

The Silent Twin” didn’t freak me out as much as its predecessor (the ravens really got to me) but it is still very sinister. Where is Abigail? Who took her? Who is this diarist with such dark thoughts? The book has a different feel to it compared its predecessors as Jennifer isn’t in the thick of the active investigation with the rest of the police force. But Jennifer is definitely in the thick of the story!

In my mind even though I get it wrong every time, I had picked my suspects and as usual I was wrong. You’d have thought with the amount of crime fiction I’ve read, I’d be able to get it right at some point but these authors seem to remain one step ahead of me, throwing red herrings at me to keep me on my toes!

I can’t wait to read more about DC Knight!

Big thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me this ebook in return for my unbiased review.
