I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Well be careful what you wish for as I was torn between what I would rate this book. Overall I have to be honest and say that for me it was between a 3 and 3.5 so I went with the higher of the two. And although part of the story, once I went about 78% in (on my kindle) really started to pick up and from then on was more of a 4* read–I could not justify giving the whole book a 4 out of 5 rating.
I found the first few chapters really frustrating and had to put the book down a few times. But I struggled through and when the twist finally came…it was a good one. This will not put me off reading any more of Lisa Gardner’s books though as I have heard very good things about them. I just wish I could have said something more positive about this one.
I was fascinated by the main characters , Nicky Frank and her husband Thomas as I knew they were the key to the story but if I never hear the name ‘Vero’ again it will be too soon.
I also did not like the fact that one minute I was reading a first person view and then it switched. If this is done well, I am not usually bothered and of course this is just a personal view. I do like stories with different perspectives but there was so much going on it seemed jumbled and confused me even more.
I know some people really enjoyed this book, it was not to my personal taste but it wasn’t a bad story so I would urge others to give it a chance as it had a great twist.
