THANK YOU šš» to Random Things Tours and Orenda for inviting me to take part in this blog tour and providing me with an e-ARC.
Hiding from the world in her little white cottage on the shores of a loch, Annie Jackson is fighting to come to terms with the world of the murmurs, a curse that has haunted female members of her family for centuries.
The Torments is the second book, in what I hope will be a running series because I absolutely adore Annie Jackson and her ācurseā. You can find my review of the first book (#TheMurmurs) HERE.
What you can expect in The Torments šš»
šatmospheric Scottish setting
š haunting storyline
š both a modern and a gothic feel to it so itās PERFECT for spooky season
š murder & mystery
š highly descriptive
š memorable characters with depth
š a disturbing pastĀ
The book kicks off with a descriptive and captivating prologueā¦ haunting almost and I knew I was in for a treat. āPeople fear what they donāt understand.ā And boy did Annie Jackson know this more than others.
It is told from multiple POVās and moves between the past and the present so you get a feel for and understand the flow of the story. Annie is the FMC who āhearsā? or maybe experiences, the murmurs – part of which is the curse of knowing how someone is going to die, so she isolates herself as much as possible. Can you blame her?! Lewis is her twin brother and features quite a lot in this book. Clare Corrigan is a police officer, local to the area and becomes involved in helping Annie and her brother find a missing person – someone close to Annie. The book is rich with characters that youāll either love or loathe.
I really enjoyed (as I do with all of Michael J. Maloneās books) the fact that for me, it is in the moment type reading so if youāre a visual reader like me, youāre in for a treat. Thereās a great build up of suspense and the revelations will have your jaw on the floor.
Would I recommend this book? In a heartbeat, I would! If you love legend & lore, gothic mysteries and chilling storylines that will get under your skin – this is the book for you!
