Today on my blog, guest reviewer Claire Knight is sharing her thoughts on David Videcette’s – The Detriment. I really enjoyed this sequel to The Theseus Paradox – you can read my review HERE . So let’s find out what Claire thought of it!
Synopsis:
“The truth costs nothing, but a lie can cost you everything…”
June 2007: a barbaric nail bomb is planted outside a London nightclub, a spy is found dead in his garden, and a blazing Jeep is driven into Glasgow airport. Three events bound by an earth-shattering connection that should have remained buried forever.
From the author of ‘The Theseus Paradox’, the smash-hit 7/7 thriller based on true events, comes the sequel about a real-life mystery that threatens to destroy a nation. Detective Inspector Jake Flannagan must uncover how a series of astonishing events are inextricably linked, before the past closes in on him.
We all have secrets we say we’ll never tell…
Claire’s Rating: 5/5

Claire’s Review:
“Ask me no questions and I’ll tell you no lies”
I loved David Videcette’s debut novel, The Theseus Paradox so when The Detriment was announced, I was extremely excited. I loved the character of Jake Flannagan and the way Mr Videcette wrote his story of the fictional investigation into the London bombings gave me proper food for thought.
This time out, Jake is looking at another real life event, the Glasgow Airport Bombing and the failed attempts in London which all took place at the end of June 2007.
“I can’t tell you the truth, but I can tell you a story…”
Yet again, Mr Videcette puts his own spin on real life investigations and throws into the mix Jake’s personal life and issues….Jake is really pushed with his day job and things he’s asked of by someone he loves! All after coming back from suspension…is this the end of the line for Jake as he puts his reputation and police career on the line.
Mr Videcette definitely knows how to write a fast paced crime thriller; I raced through The Detriment, out of breath chasing around London as he’s tries to solve multiple crimes! And yet again my perception of events is questioned! You devil you Videcette!! How much of this writing is true and how much is a story?!
I really can’t wait to see what is thrown at Jake! But I implore you Mr Videcette, don’t wait so long to give us book 3!!!
Thanks Alfred
