Today I have the absolute pleasure of taking part in the final stop of Will Dean’sFIRST BORN blog tour and share my review. My thanks to Hodder for an arc. Here’s a bit about this book first before I rave about how absolutely brilliant it is!
Molly lives a quiet, contained life in London. Naturally risk averse, she gains comfort from security and structure. Every day the same.
Her identical twin Katie is her exact opposite: gregarious and spontaneous. They used to be inseparable, until Katie moved to New York a year ago. Molly still speaks to her daily without fail.
But when Molly learns that Katie has died suddenly in New York, she is thrown into unfamiliar territory. Katie is part of her DNA. As terrifying as it is, she must go there and find out what happened. As she tracks her twin’s last movements, cracks begin to emerge. Nothing is what it seems. And a web of deceit is closing around her.
Delivering the same intensity of pace and storytelling that made THE LAST THING TO BURN a word-of-mouth sensation, FIRST BORN will surprise, shock and enthral.
Set mainly in the US with a grounding in the UK, First Born was simply brilliant! As a reader, you’ll find loss, grief, jealousy, family/relationships, secrets, loyalty, lies, betrayal and suspicion around every corner.
⁉️? OMFG What a read?⁉️ Is there anything that Will Dean CAN’T do? He wow’d readers with the Tuva Moodyson series (highly rec btw) and then gripped us with The Last Thing To Burn and now THIS!
The opening of this novel hooked me instantly. Tension, questions to be answered, and utter suspense had me holding my breath – I needed to know more. The characters were well drawn out, the writing crisp and flawless and the storyline was emotive and thrilling – a real ‘how am I going to screw with your mind some more’ kinda read! I love how the author teases the reader – having us believe everyone is a suspect and then?boom ? BUT even when you think it’s resolved… ?boom?boom?boom? Hang on while I pick my jaw up off the floor! Frickin’ flawless. If you think the twin trope is used too much and nothing could change your mind… I urge you to read this book.
Would I recommend this book? You bet your ass I would! Tense, unique, twisty as f**k – The absolute definition of an unputdownable read! Highly recommended!
