This deliciously devious read is set in Edinburgh and the reader is thrust into a world of gender inequality, the #metoo movement, power & control; manipulation; all the #ism’s; fear; frustration; anger; bullying; trolling & social media’s darker side; payback; truths; secrets; confrontation; accountability; consent; friendships; and a search for justice… but it is oh-so-much more!

Bold and topical, this novel instantly grabs your attention – from the front cover to the back blurb – you just know that you’re in for an intense, gripping and thought-provoking read. The author tackles a sensitive subject, bringing a storyline that evokes all the emotions! a well written narrative has you both cheering and screaming and setting  the novel in a work place setting was clever and all-too-real for some. Told in multiple POV so you get to know each of the narrator’s own story and experiences, you also are able to see what draws the women together and the actions/consequences that  follow. It is one hell of an addictive and powerful read!

Character-wise – this book had plenty, and rather than go through each, I’ll touch upon the three main characters as it was their story, their actions and their emotions that stayed with me the most. There is a mix of likeable and revolting characters and personalities in the book and I loved this aspect because even those characters I was drawn to, had some flaws that made me cringe!

Laura is super-smart, like… bloody genius smart… as a data scientist but I had mixed feelings about her – She could be a bit naive, maybe even gullible but she had a fire within her, that once stoked, you did not want to be in her path when that baby exploded!

Suki – I actually found her sense of humour quite dry and LOVED that. She was determined and maybe a little bit scary at times – once she got her teeth into something, that was it!

Claire was a PR person. Not sure what I actually thought of her – she too had a mix of qualities that left me on the fence. BUT she joined forces with Suki and Laura to show that she was ready to fight by any means necessary and take back what was rightfully hers.

Do I recommend this read? That’ll be a fast and firm – Hell Yeah! Heleen Kist has created an emotive, insightful, empowering, hard-hitting novel encapsulating the #metoo movement and injecting justice at it’s core. A must read!
