Oh my friggin god! This book….thisssss booooook! Eeeeeek! I mean…come on! Look at THAT cover….and THAT title! Su-bloody-perb! I actually find myself staring at this cover…over & over again!
Set in Shoreditch, London – the author takes us on a journey of abandonment; damaged childhoods; shame; guilt; secrets; betrayal; a yearning for answers; violence and hope.
The pace of this book picks you up like a whirlwind and I tell you what, the storyline has you hooked from the start! I love the edginess of it all and I truly believe this is Caroline Mitchell’s best book so far!
DS Ruby Preston is something special! My jaw was on the floor more than once, as I watched Ruby develop in this story. She does like a #badboy – naughty!! ? She is strong and does what she wants to achieve her aim. I am really liking her almost …dare I say, reckless nature, but suspect this is going to land her in a whole heap of trouble in future books…or at least I hope it is!! I think Ruby is up for the challenge for sure!
Nathan…well, what can I say…*sigh* – another fictional crush for me…and I am not ashamed to say it! He is mysetrious, dark, intelligent and in my head….damn, bloody sexy! Whoot woo! He also has a soft spot beneath that hard exterior and I am wondering what that may lead to in this series….
DI Downes- full of flaws and I suspect this guy is going to fall…and fall hard! I like him though…maybe even pity him a bit…But he could surprise us!
And of course, there is Lucy! WTAF!? Her creepiness is simply divine!! This character was brilliant to read and I bet she was a twisted pleasure to write! It was so well written, I could hear her cringy voice in my head….#goosebumps!! She is one messed up girl, but…I actually LOVE her evilness! How can someone who makes your skin crawl, also excite you in equal measure!? Lucy did! #TotallyTwisted!
There were many other characters that complemented the above and really pulled the story together. This was one sick and twisted story- I absolutely adored it! In all honestly, as much as I love DC Jennifer Knight, DS Preston is in the lead!
I am VERY excited about this series and it gets a quadruple #HellYeah recommendation from me! Tantalisingly terrifying, twisted, and dark – expect the unexpected with DS Ruby Preston #bookjunkies!
A definite #TopRead of 2016!
