My ‘lil possum, Claire Knight, is back with a great review of Sandra Nikolai’s book titled Icy Silence. I have not read anything by this author, so I am keen to hear whether it’s a thumbs up or down from the lovely Mrs Knight! Over to you Claire!
Synopsis:
“Where was I? In some kind of tomb?”
When ghostwriter Megan Scott and investigative reporter Michael Elliott agree to speak at an exclusive boarding school, the undisclosed deaths of two students overshadow their agenda. Fear mounts as a powerful ice storm cuts them off from the rest of the world—harboring a potential murderer in their midst.
Without access to outside help, Megan and Michael are forced to rely on their wits. Desperate measures drive them beneath the protective façade of the elite high school in a frantic search for a coldblooded killer. What they discover are secrets more terrifying than anyone could ever expect.
Claire’s Rating: 3.5-4 /5
Claire’s Review:
Icy Silence is the first Sandra Nikolai book I’ve read. I must admit, I hadn’t heard of her before she contacted Noelle but I’m glad she did as I’ve discovered a new author!
Icy Silence is written from Megan’s point of view, she’s a ghostwriter with an investigative journalist as a partner, Michael. They’re stranded at an elite boarding school after doing a careers talk for one of Michael’s old friends. Little do they know when they arrive it’s going to turn into a weekend they might not forget with murder, food rations, freak (well freak for a Brit reader) weather and power cuts.
There were points during my reading, I forgot I was in the UK and thought I was in a very chilly and icy Canada! I’d wake up in the morning thinking about the snow and ice outside, both things I’m not a fan of if I have to leave the house!!
Megan and Michael are likeable characters. It’s a refreshing change to have a mystery crime novel that doesn’t involve someone from the police or law enforcement which are my usual reads.
I will be reading more about Megan and Michael; in fact I have already downloaded Timely Escape which is a short story prequel to Icy Silence.
This is a good clean thriller with suspense to keep you guessing right to the end! This is the third Megan and Michael book but having not read the previous stories, I didn’t feel I was missing out.
Thank you to Sandra Nikolai and Crimebookjunkie book blog for this ebook for my honest review.
Oh Claire! I am now feeling a little bit homesick! The icy, cold winters is one of the things I miss most about home! *sigh* ~ guess I will have to add this to my TBR! Thanks for your review lovely!
