Synopsis:

After two long years of beatings at the hands of Carl Jameson,
followed by the obligatory apologies and tears, Cassandra Hunt
knows enough is enough.
It’s time.
There is someone else to think about now– the tiny life doing its
best to grow inside her while she hides the bruises.
Finally, with the help of one of Carl’s friends, leaving is possible.
Can Cass execute her plan in time? Can she and her unborn child
claw their way to safety before Carl finds out?
Can she really escape?

My Review:

I received this short story from the author in exchange for an honest review.  Thank you K.A. Richardson and Caffeine Nights Publishing.

What a brilliant little short story this is!  I was immediately taken in by the story and held throughout.  I almost felt as if I was reading an excerpt from Karen Rose or Lisa Gardner — both authors capture my interest from the very first page.  K.A. Richardson has done the same.

What I loved about this story were the characters.  In a few short pages I felt immediately drawn to Cassandra Hunt.  She is vulnerable, broken and confused.  My emotions were all over the place and I really felt a strong connection with Cass.  The same applied to Tony Wilford.  We meet him briefly, yet the impact he has is enormous. Rose Peters, Cass’ mother has a small but significant role to play towards the end of this story.  You really feel for her when she realises that she was blind to the suffering of her daughter. And finally,  Cass’ partner: Carl Jameson– evoked anger, repulsion and an immediate feeling of “this a**hole needs a taste of his own medicine”.  You will have to read the story to find out if he does get it or not though ~ #BookTease

The themes of domestic violence, retribution and loss are woven throughout making the plot easy to follow at a pace which perfectly matches the story.  A gripping start which builds until we are gasping for air!  The style of writing is also a perfect match being told from various points of view to encompass the whole picture.  Being set over the period of one night but alluding to a series of events leading to that night, was a great way of keeping me intrigued.   I am desperate to find out more…I think K.A Richardson mastered this!

We are then lucky enough to get a snippet of With Deadly Intent! Now this is a book I am definitely going to have to get my hands on!
