My guest reviewer, Claire Knight, is hosting Mel Sherratt’s Don’t Look Behind You blog tour today with a fabulous review! Woohoo!!! Also check out Chat About Books and Stef Loz Book Reviews!
Synopsis:
She got into bed but sleep didn’t come easily. Every creak in the house made her alert. She was waiting for him to come and get her.
The small city of Stockleigh is in shock as three women are brutally attacked within days of each other. Are they random acts of violence or is there a link between the victims? For Detective Eden Berrisford, it’s her most chilling case yet.
The investigation leads Eden to cross paths with Carla, a woman trying to rebuild her life after her marriage to a cruel and abusive man ended in unimaginable tragedy. Her husband Ryan was imprisoned for his crimes but, now he’s out and coming for her.
As Eden starts to close in on the attacker, she also puts herself in grave danger. Can she stop him before he strikes again? And can Carla, terrified for her life, save herself – before the past wreaks a terrible revenge?

Claire’s Review:
Eden Berrisford is back after the trauma of her niece’s kidnapping to face another case close to her heart, victims of domestic violence along with a nutter attacking women in the street.
I was totally intrigued by Carla’s story! What happened to Chloe? My heart went out to Carla even without knowing the full story. Ryan is a nasty piece of work! Carla’s story felt real, the “helpful” comments about appearance, the financial control spiralling into the slaps, forced sex and onto the full blown beatings for the smallest thing….”He didn’t love her, just the power he had over her”.
I really enjoy reading Mel Sherratt’s crime books. They are hard hitting in nature but show off the personal side of the protagonist. Eden is a brilliant character, tenacious in her work but things are never plain sailing for her in her personal life; in The Girls Next Door, her work and personal life collide and in this story….well you’ll just have to read it to find out! But I can’t wait to see what happens next in Eden’s personal and professional life!
