I’m thrilled to be hosting Gordon Bickerstaff‘sDeadly Secrets blog tour today. Huge thanks to Sarah of Book on the Bright Side Publicity for the invite and the author for the ARC. Before I share my review, let’s find out a bit about the author and this book!
About the Author
I was born and brought up in Glasgow, Scotland. I studied biochemistry, and I’ve worked in several Scottish Universities where I did research on enzymes and taught biochemistry. After thirty years of teaching and research I retired my academic pen and took of a fiction pen.
I write medical-themed thrillers. Deadly Secrets was published in 2013, and was followed by Everything To Lose in 2014, The Black Fox in 2015, Toxic Minds in 2016, Tabula Rasa in 2017 and Tears of Fire in 2018. I live in central Scotland with my wife and we enjoy reading, writing, and walking in the hills.
Gavin’s life will be turned upside down. He joins a company to work on a product that will revolutionise the food industry. His initial gut instinct is to walk away until he discovers one of the company directors is the former love of his teenage life.
The financial implications are global and incredible. Powerful individuals and countries are prepared to kill as they compete to seize control of the company. Corruption at high levels, a deadly flaw in the product, and the stakes jump higher and higher.
Against overwhelming odds, Gavin must rescue his former love from the hands of an evil cult as they prepare her for a living nightmare.
Set in various places the reader is faced with conspiracy, secrets, politics, science, manipulation, government agencies, corruption, and a search for the truth.
The opening of this novel was intriguing and had me wanting to read on – it is not for the faint hearted (yay!) and although I would not say there is animal cruelty per se – there is quite a gruesome start involving a dog and a biochemical …erm…reaction! I felt it was relevant to understand this thriller and the overall impact of the storyline. There are a lot of characters and information to take in – but I was fascinated by them all so it did not throw me. I love a variety of characters in a novel as long as you know why they are introduced – and we do know/or find out at the necessary point – so YAY! This was a good, pacy read with a storyline that thriller fans will enjoy.
Character-wise we learn a lot about each one in their respective chapters and how they are intertwined in this action packed thriller. Sometimes the links are not immediately obvious right away – and I enjoyed the lead up to the revelations.
Would I recommend this read? Oh Yes- I- Would! If you like your reads action packed, compelling, with an element of gruesome violence, this is definitely a book for you!
Still not sure? Check out what everyone else has been saying here:
